본 연구에서는 젊은 세대를 대표하는 한국 대학생들의 지역주의를 살펴보았다. 수도권을 대표하는 서울과 영남지역을 대표하는 대구, 호남지역을 대표하는 광주, 그리고 충청권을 대표하는 대전의 대학생들을 대상으로 가치관과 정치이념, 정치참여, 투표행태 등을 비교하여 한국의 젊은 세대에서의 지역주의가 어느 정도인지를 분석하였다.
분석 결과, 첫째 대구지역 대학생은 타지역 학생들보다 자유주의 성향이 높았고, 평등주의 가치에 있어서는 낮은 성향을 보인 반면, 광주지역 대학생은 자유주의 성향이 낮았고, 평등주의 가치가 높은 성향을 보였다. 둘째, 서울지역 대학생의 정치활동이 다른 지역 대학생에 비해 적극적이었다. 셋째, 대통령선거와 국회의원선거에서 대구지역 대학생은 타지역 대학생보다 확연하게 투표율이 높았고, 광주지역 대학생들의 투표율은 확연하게 낮았다. 넷째, 대구지역 대학생의 여당 대통령 및 국회의원 지지율은 타지역 대학생보다 확실히 높았고, 광주지역 대학생의 여당 후보자 지지율은 확연하게 저조하였다. 다섯째, 중앙정부 차원의 정부신뢰에 있어서는 여당 우세 지역인 대구지역 대학생들의 정부신뢰도가 상대적으로 높았고, 야당 우세 지역인 광주지역 대학생들의 정부신뢰도는 상대적으로 낮았다. 단, 광역자치단체 및 기초자치단체 신뢰도에 있어서는 대구지역 대학생은 중앙정부와 마찬가지로 신뢰도가 상대적으로 높게 나온 반면, 신뢰도가 가장 낮게 나타난 응답자는 대전지역 대학생으로 나타났다.

This paper examines Korean student’s political regionalism. It attempts to compare the student’s values, political ideology, political participation, and voting behavior in Seoul, Daegu, Daejon, and Gwangju. This research finds that the students in Daegu are more liberalistic than those in other regions, while the students in Gwangju are more equalistic than those in other regions. Second, the students in Seoul are more active in political movement than those in other regions. Third, the voting rate of Daegu students is higher than those of other regions, while the rate of Gwangju students is lower than those of other regions. Fourth, the students in Daegu support more the government party candidates in presidential and parliamental elections than those in other regions, while the students in Gwangju support lower the government party candidates than those in other regions. Fifth, the students in Daegu trust more the central government than those in other regions, while the students in Gwangju trust lower the government than those in other regions. However, while the students in Daegu trust more the local government than those in other regions, the students in Daejon trust lower the government than those in other regions.
